Three PGA teaching pros
We have are lucky enough to have three full time PGA Professionals here at Mattishall, so there’s no excuse for not being able to get a lesson to improve that swing, chip or putting technique.
Our PGA Professional Matthew Gardner and Assistant Professionals Oli Underhill-Smith and James Wheeler, provide one-to-one coaching to both members and non-members. Matthew, Oli and James also provide our popular class programme for Beginners, Ladies and Juniors.
Matthew Oli and James’s tuition is ideal for those wanting to brush-up on their golfing techniques as well as those new to the sport wanting to start from scratch. The lessons are tailored specifically to the player, depending on their previous experience and goals.
PGA Professional
Matthew Gardner
Matthew started working at Barnham Broom in 2004 starting as Golf Marshall followed by Shop Assistant before promoted to Golf Operations Manager in 2018. Matthew started his P.G.A. Training and after completed a 3-year degree course at the Birmingham University in 2017. Matt is known for his retail background.
He started at Mattishall in 2021 as Academy Manager and has since been promoted to General Manager not only providing tuiton but overseeing both clubhouse and academy golfing activities, as well as managing and supporting staff members.

Oli Underhill-Smith
I started playing golf at the age of 3 and have never stopped since. I started here in 2021 as shop assistant and began my PGA training in 2023, with 1 year left to complete.
I enjoy all elements of the golf industry, but teaching is my passion.
